Lego Birthday Party Prep!

Within a weeks time, the kids and I threw together this Lego birthday party!

I had a few ideas in my head, but I wasn't sure if I was feeling up to a big party, and we were short on time but... you know how much I love a party!

Here's a bit of our party prep!
We made water bottle wraps using lego colors of printer paper and construction paper (blue) and we cut them into two inch strips and taped them on. Actually, Elena taped them on while she was watching tv. Quick and easy and it adds so much to the party. I intended to embellish the water bottles more, but I ran out of time and found that I loved the bright, solid colors, so that worked out well!
I picked up a couple of packs of colored plasticware and colored napkins at Wal-mart and used the same 2" paper strips to wrap the plasticware. Making these napkin wraps, is my new favorite party prep thing to do. It can be done so far ahead of time and I think it makes the guests feel like you went the extra mile.
And of course, I made a few pom poms. Yep, I'll use them again for the 4th of July! I love double duty party decorations!
Another easy party treat! We were short of time, so we cheated and bought a tub of cookies from the bakery and got some ice cream....
and made ice cream sandwiches! They're so easy, Deacon even made a few.
I made a bunch of cupcakes. I love these mini ones!
And, I couldn't help myself. I made a quick batch of brownies and threw a bunch of m&m's in the batter and the best part was when I pulled them out of the oven, I threw a few more on the top- they would sink in and land in funny ways... it was really fun and it relieved some of my pre-party stress!

This was my splurge for this party! Let's call it my present for throwing a birthday party.  I ordered these lego molds from Amazon. I think they were around $20.00 for the two of them.
Each day when Elena would get home from school, she would melt a different color of candy melts into the molds.
She became a whiz at making these lego guys and blocks.
I don't know how I would've done this party without all of her help. She's becoming quite the party planner herself and I couldn't be prouder!
What do you get for party favors for a bunch of 10-ish year old boys?
Well, we went with water balloons, pop-its...

And we found these lego magnets. Here's a sample of how they look with lego guys on them.
Deacon put a few of his legos in bags with the magnet to give to each guest.

The goodie bags all ready for Deacon's guests!

Deacon also picked out and bought (with his own money) some of his favorite candy for his guests too. He's such a giver, I love it!
Elena's putting the final touches on our little party display while blowing up balloons to hang on the mail box.
I intended to make a banner to hang under the pom poms, but time ran away from us but, we found this lego guy printable online and printed it out and Elena made a banner with them instead. I think it helps convey the lego theme. Click here to find the printable.
Ahh! We're all ready for a birthday party for my 10 year old boy!

At the last minute, I grabbed all of his legos and dumped them into my favorite enamelware bowls and used them as a centerpiece on the table. Truth is, I love this, I'm itching to get my hands on those legos and I think this will be my table centerpiece for the summer!

Whew! Not bad for about a week's time of preparations. Deacon was so excited the night before the party that he hardly slept! I love making my boy feel important and special by doing this all for him! Happy birthday, big boy! You're one in a million!

Thanks for checking out our party prep! Hope you'll come back again soon!

P.S.  Photos of the actual party are on the way!
